What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is the future of Trauma Recovery. It is a pioneering body based talking therapy.

It is a beautifully simple and powerful process, which is based on the idea that traumatic experiences can lead to dysfunction in the nervous system. Somatic Experiencing helps you notice bodily sensations resulting from unprocessed Trauma. Together we will work through these sensations, allowing you to process past trauma, then regulate your nervous system. Thereby letting go of past trauma stored within your body. 

Releasing this stored trauma has significant physical and emotional health benefits. These include, better sleep, less stress and anxiety. Improved physical health, better emotional regulation, healthier relationships and so much more.

What is Trauma

Trauma is not just a single one off horrific event in the past. It can be a process of  events experienced over many years. It can often be related to adverse childhood experiences, or poor attachment to caregivers. Basically, It is anything that overwhelms your capacity to cope in the present. Trauma is not just what happened to us, it is what we hold inside.

 Experiencing traumatic events can harm a person’s sense of safety, sense of self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships.

Long after the traumatic event occurs, people with trauma can often feel shame, low self-worth, helplessness, powerlessness and intense fear. You live your life in the fight, flight or freeze response. Never fully relaxing, never being the person you can be.

Somatic Experiencing will allow you to let go of this stored Trauma and live your life with freedom.
