Meet David

Here’s just a little bit about me and why I retrained to provide Somatic Experiencing therapy.

Before setting up my therapy practice in Nottingham, I worked in some highly stressful jobs in the public and health sectors.

I believed I had to be there for everyone all of the time and because of this I forgot about my own health. My coping methods were linked to my own past experiences and traumas. My mindset believed I should be able to cope. I wasn’t doing!

I didn’t feel good enough and was anxious all the time. Completely lost my confidence and was constantly questioning myself and worrying. Seeking a quick fix to solve my problems. None of which worked!

I experienced a whole range of physical health problems, but still did nothing to sort it out.

And, then I had a stroke.

My Journey

 

I then received significant amounts of talking therapy. This helped me to understand where my stress and anxiety came from. I made adjustments to my lifestyle and thinking and this did really help. It didn’t however remove the stored trauma I had experienced. 

Thinking my way out of Trauma did not allow me to fully let go. I still held onto the painful physical symptoms buried deep inside me. These were the cause of my stroke. 

Then I came across the book ‘The Body Keeps The Score’ by Bessel Van Der Kolk. This began my transformative journey into understanding how we hold onto trauma within our body, despite talking deeply and at length about it. I knew this type of therapy was the path I needed to take. 

I had already undertaken years of training in talk therapy, but there was something still missing. So followed a long period of  further learning and researching the work of Peter Levine, Bessel Van Der Kolk and Gabor Mate`. Finally I undertook my own training in Somatic Experiencing. This was the missing part I was searching for. I have experienced the powerful benefits of this type of therapy. It transformed my life. It can do the same for you. 

I truly feel the combination of Somatic Experiencing and talk therapy is the way forward. This work is my passion. It is my strong belief that this is the future of Trauma Therapy.

What blocks us is often deep unconscious patterns that we believe keep us safe. We build walls around us to protect us. I help you to resolve the fear that is stopping you from moving forwards in life, business, relationships etc. We take that wall down brick by brick.
